Today’s discoveries are straight out of dreams—or nightmares. Eyes, so many eyes, peer from every direction. Barnacle-encrusted remnants near the shipwreck have become a thriving ecosystem, with fish making the wreckage their new home. Tangled seaweed provided hiding spots for unknown species. Towards the end of our journey, we caught a glimpse of a creature that defies description. I could feel fear enveloping me even before discerning the creature’s size; it had so many legs—so, so many legs.
