René Magritte – Son of Man Puzzle
Perhaps the most well-known artwork of Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte (1898 – 1967), The son of man, is in fact a self-portrait. The man standing in an overcoat and a bowler hat is Magritte himself, but his face is largely obscured by a hovering green apple. However, the man’s eyes are visible, discreetly peeking over the edge of the apple.
Did you know: This painting was a featured element in the plot of the 1999 movie (remake), The Thomas Crown Affair, with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. If you’re an art lover – you MUST watch it!
